Walk in the Light

I’ve been living in Psalm 56 ever since Sunday before last.  David’s repeated statements of trust in God have been a comfort to my soul.  But we shouldn’t overlook the last verse:

“For you have delivered my soul from death, yes, my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.” (vs. 13)

Not only did God save us so that we would no longer live for ourselves (II Corinthians 5:15), clearly He has saved us SO THAT we may walk before Him in the light of life.  Our trust in God and the comfort that He provides to our souls comes to us as we walk in His light. We find comfort and wisdom in these days of anxiety, fear, depression, confusion, and hurt when we keep our eyes on the light of Jesus Christ.

Jesus says something very interesting in Luke 11:34-35, “Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your body is full of darkness. Therefore be careful lest the light in you be darkness.” Your eyes are the window of your whole body. What are you reading?  What are you watching? Who are you looking to for counsel?

God has saved us so that we can walk in the light of life.  When we allow our site to be obscured by staring at the wrong things we become unstable and wavering in our walk.  Jesus warns us (as He often does) to be careful lest we walk in darkness.

Where are you focusing your eyes (and ears) these days? Are you staring at all the things you don’t have and all the people who seem to be against you?  Turn off the TV and put down your phone. Pick up God’s Word, read it and fill your life with light. You will be reminded of God’s fatherly care for you and will feel His comfort rush over you. Ask Him to open your eyes to the wonderful things in His Word.  He wants to answer that prayer.

We want to help you know the security of living for Jesus Christ. There really is peace that passes understanding, even in the middle of this chaos.  If you want to understand more about what I’m describing we would be happy to help you find that peace.

I closed our service on Sunday by saying that I am praying for safety for Hope Bible Church.  I’m praying for spiritual safety: that God would keep us from temptation and preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.  May we all be on guard to walk in the light so that we can be safe with our Father.
