In the post titled “Standing on the Unseen,” I wrote about those things which are unseen and real as opposed to those things which we can experience and thus seem more real to us than unseen things. There is a bigger problem here than just trying to remember that these unseen things exist.
We live in a world system that has been designed with a primary purpose: suppress the truth in unrighteousness. According to Romans 1 man is without excuse before God because “that which is known about God is evident within them; for God has made it evident to them.” Sinful human beings, having sinful, deceitful hearts happily conspire with Satan, the current ruler of this world, to create a system in which those things which are unseen can be suppressed, ignored, and ultimately forgotten. The moment we come into contact with God’s truth Satan, our hearts and that world system go to work doing everything possible to resist that truth.
As I said in the previous post, there is much in Hebrews 11:6 that should seem obvious: “He who comes to God must believe that He is…” And yet, as we’ve seen, to believe that God is involves resisting our truth suppressing hearts in this truth suppressing world and instead choosing to have faith in God’s truth as revealed in scripture.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this not of ourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
